Physician Associates

Physician Associates are medically trained and qualified healthcare professionals, who work alongside doctors and provide medical care as an integral part of the multidisciplinary team.

Here at Saxonbrook, Physician Associates work closely with GPs and support the diagnosis and management of patients. They hold daily clinics in which patients are seen for ongoing, acute and urgent medical matters.

Physician Associates are able to:

  • take medical histories
  • carry out physical examinations
  • formulate differential diagnoses and management plans
  • develop and deliver appropriate treatment and management plans for both acute and long-term chronic conditions
  • request and interpret laboratory investigations
  • perform diagnostic and therapeutic procedures
  • provide health promotion and disease prevention advice
  • NB: Due to lack of legislation, Physician Associates are not yet able to prescribe or request ionising radiation in the UK.

Additional Staff

Community Midwives

Midwives from East Surrey Hospital hold weekly antenatal clinics at the surgery. All aspects of care for your pregnancy are provided.

Community Nurses

We have a district nurse team attached to Saxonbrook Medical. However, they are employed by NHS West Sussex. Their priority is to those patients who are housebound, assessing their diverse needs, delivering care, and liaising closely with the doctors and other members of the primary healthcare team.

Health Visitors

A health visitor is a registered nurse who has received training particularly related to babies, children and pregnant women. Their role is to provide families with children under five years old with support and advice around the general aspects of mental, physical and social wellbeing.

There is a health visitor attached to Saxonbrook Medical at Maidenbower and Northgate surgeries:

  • Maidenbower Surgery: 01293 600300 Ext 3969 (based at Crawley Hospital)
  • Northgate Surgery: 01293 600300 Ext 3256 (based at Crawley Hospital)

Administrative Support

Saxonbrook Medical use staff based in the EU for back-office work such as letter and pathology administration for the purpose of supporting the UK-based staff. All staff members are fully aware of their Information Governance responsibilities and are subject to stringent training and auditing procedures.

They are able to process UK-based data through NHS-approved encrypted channels and use only NHS-approved software in their tasks. Under current Data Protection legislation, no confidential data is permitted to leave the EU.

PCN Shared Team

Saxonbrook Medical is a proud member of the South Crawley Primary Care Network. This is a local network including the Gossops Green, Bewbush and Coachmans GP Surgeries.

As part of this agreement, additional team members have been recruited to be shared between the network practices. These roles include:

Clinical Pharmacists

Clinical Pharmacists work as part of the multidisciplinary team in a patient-facing role to clinically assess and treat patients using their expert knowledge of medicines for specific disease areas.

Social Prescribers

Social Prescribers connect people to community groups and agencies for practical and emotional support and complement other approaches such as care navigation and active signposting.

First Contact Physiotherapists

FCPs can assess, diagnose, treat and manage musculoskeletal (MSK) problems and discharge a person without a medical referral. Those working in these roles within a network can be accessed through direct referral by staff in GP Practices.

Care Coordinators

Care Coordinators work with GPs and other primary care professionals within the network to identify and manage a caseload of identified patients, making sure that appropriate support is made available to them and their carers.
